I massaged my sore wrists, freedom sending a shiver of relief through my body. I stared at Amira, my eyes filled with frustration and curiosity. She raised her hands in apology, a glimmer of remorse flickering in her face.

"Why didn't you say that from the beginning—" she began.

"You didn't give me a chance to speak," I interrupted, my voice calm but firm.

"If you had allowed me to explain, I would have told you. Maybe ask question before you lock someone up next time.”

Amira exhaled heavily, her demeanor softening as she looked at me.

"I apologize for any misunderstanding, Ilyasah. I assure you; I wouldn't intentionally hurt you. I just needed all the help I could I get against her, and interrogating her servant seemed like a way to gain a helpful advantage."

“I…uhh.”

“I’m sorry about that, truly.”

Her words held a surprising tenderness, a sincerity that caught me off guard. I found myself compelled to unravel the enigma she presented. The mystery behind her need for revenge. The reason she thought she was capable enough to kill a legend.

"Tell me, Amira," I began trying to mask my innate curiosity.

"How did you get me out? What’s your plan?"

Her gaze locked mine, her eyes steady and resolute.

“How I got you out and my plan for killing her are the same.”

“With this.”

She extended her hang outward and snapped her fingers, producing a blue flame that lit up the darkened cavern. It rippled and changed shape transforming into a figure that took the shape of Sebille. The image of her dropped my stomach, but the spectacle of the magic overshadowed it.

“How? You’re a mage? I though they died out in the war.? I asked with genuine curiosity.

“I have the blood, so I have the abilities.”

“I can move people and places, I can enhance people’s physical abilities, and I can create minor illusions.”

“But it takes a toll.” She added as she lowered her hands and unwrapped a length of her binding on her stomach to reveal a blackened portion of flesh, like a scar of straight obsidian.

“Last night when I found you, I created an Image of you in your bed, so hopefully it was enough to trick her for the time being.”

I scrutinized her face, searching for any flicker of deception. Although a part of me remained wary, she seemed honest. Her voice had taken on a subtle shift, turning slightly more tired and wearisome. Almost as if her abilities were a bad thing. I let the observation go without prying.

Yet, despite her honesty, doubts lingered. Could I fully trust Amira? I had become more than just a hunter—now a vampire with a thirst for blood—complicated matters. Would she view me as an ally or a threat once she killed her quarry?

I had to stay vigilant, keep Amira within my sight until we killed Sebille. The stakes were too high to leave anything to chance.

Nodding subtly, I pushed aside my thoughts and focused on practicalities.

"And your plan?” I inquired.

“The same as yours. Enhance myself and attack her when she least expects it.
